Stir Crazy

No Escape

Not exactly the best day today. It's raining, there are several things all happening at once and there is no way of escaping.

So my mother-in-law has been taken to A&E by my wife. In addition, we had arranged for the carpets to be cleaned in the house which has resulted in myself, my daughter and father-in-law being stuck in the lounge. It would have been perfect to get out of the house but, with the rain coming down, it just doesn't seem sensible.

We are therefore restricted to the ground floor (most of which is taken up by industrial carpet cleaning equipment) for the rest of the day because we should avoid walking on the damp carpets for a few hours.

It would have been productive to get in the car and do something like food shopping. Unfortunately, my father-in-law is regarded as high risk should he be unlucky enough to contract coronavirus. He is now self-isolating and should stay in the house indefinitely. I could go shopping with my daughter but leaving my father-in-law on his own while he is still recovering makes me anxious. The same goes for him being left with the responsibility of my daughter, even if I were to be absent for only a short period of time.

Being Entertained

We have tried to keep my daughter entertained but she is now starting to go stir crazy and desperate to do something other than be stuck indoors without access to the rest of her toys in her bedroom while the carpet is being cleaned and drying out. It is times like this you just have to roll with the situation and make the best of it.

When faced with bad weather preventing us from enjoying any time out of the house, I always dream about living in a country with a more predictable climate. My wife is from Venezuela, Maracay to be exact, and the weather is a constant. If there ever were periods of rain it would be torrential for a matter of minutes with the clouds parting and the sun evaporating any surface water almost immediately.

Early in our marriage we discussed moving to Venezuela but our experience of the political situation made us think hard about what future we could expect there. Venezuela is now in the midst of a political and economic crisis with the added misery of hyperinflation making it difficult to get by for all, except those with access to US dollars. The beaches may be stunning but I would be putting my family at risk by going there. Even my wife only recently returned after more than 6 years to spend a couple of weeks there for a family emergency.

A Relaxed Lifestyle

So, we could have been living in an ideal climate with a more relaxed lifestyle if it hadn't been for a failed political ideology and a complete lack of investment in the country's infrastructure. I have always wanted to have a lifestyle that allowed me to spend more time with my family but the traditional 9 to 5 has been the best way of ruining that dream. This is why my search for an alternative led me to a FREE Online Workshop that explained how it was possible to set up my own online company. A digital company that:

  • would not rely on location,
  • would not be dictated by time, and
  • would allow me the freedom to spend quality time with my family when I wanted, or when they needed me.

It was an eye-opener and made me realise that whatever I wanted to achieve was within grasp. I just hadn't been given the resources and guidance before. The company founders had developed a system of workshops, webinars and extensive training resources. Combine that with a community of like-minded individuals who all want you to succeed and it is inevitable that success stories come through thick and fast.

It's a mistake to think you'll have an easy ride. Results are not guaranteed and you are expected to put in the hard work to achieve the success that so many others have found. I'm on a journey of self-discovery, as well as a steep learning curve in digital marketing, but I can see that my dreams are closer than ever before.
